Emma & Ben – The Block 2025
KITCHEN

Emma and Ben’s L-shaped kitchen design is a warm and stylish hub that blends contemporary farmhouse charm with modern innovation. Inspired by the earthy tones of the Macedon Ranges, it pairs the rich grain of our new shaker-style Sienna Toasted Chestnut kitchen cabinets with the timeless marble-like veining of Dekton Rem on the kitchen island bench.
The result is a calming, natural palette that feels both sophisticated and inviting. Functionality is at the forefront, with a suite of smart kitchen storage solutions including new Hettich AvanTech YOU drawers with Side Illumination, Inner Drawers, Cutlery Trays with Knife Block and Foil compartments, and non-slip mats, as well as Sensys hinges in Obsidian Black for cabinetry doors.
Hettich’s Iseo double swing pantry embodies the goal of creating ‘storage space the organised way,’ showcasing how interior fittings bring this vision to life. Finishing touches elevate the design: new Arezzo Knurled Bar handles in Copper Bronze add a touch of luxury, while Flexi LED lighting create a soft, ambient glow.

WALK IN WARDROBE

Couple Emma and Ben were the only team to retain the original floor plan for their main bedroom and walk-in wardrobe. Designed to feel warm yet contemporary, the rich burgundy cabinetry paired with light oak timber earned high praise from the judges.
The space itself is expansive, with a striking central bench reminiscent of a luxurious kitchen island. Every detail was considered, from the plum marble handles and dark chocolate timber interiors revealed upon opening, to the textured pendant light that adds a dramatic finishing touch.Seamlessly connected to the main ensuite, Emma and Ben’s wardrobe exudes elegance at every turn — a design that secured them second place for the week.

the KIDS BEDROOMS

Drawing inspiration from their own teenage years and the rich character of Daylesford, they delivered two very different designs.
The blue room was created with a teenage boy in mind. At its heart was a bold circular wall cut-out, complete with a bench seat and hanging space for skateboards. The judges praised the attention to detail, noting features such as the timber shelving and bed — elements not often seen in a children’s space. The second bedroom, designed for younger girls, took a softer approach. With twin beds and a pink-toned palette accented by bold maroons,
Emma and Ben again brought in the colours of Daylesford in a fresh and playful way. The room’s standout feature was a striking floral wallpaper, adding depth and personality to the space. Practicality wasn’t forgotten either. The pair integrated Hettich Sensys hinges into the cupboards of each bedroom, ensuring both function and form were elevated to the same thoughtful standard as the rest of their renovation.
LAUNDRY, PANTRY & MUDROOM

Emma and Ben created a cohesive, multifunctional space by combining their laundry and pantry, maximising both function and storage. The cabinetry in Toasted Chestnut and Hawthorne brings warmth and elegance to the design. In the mudroom, built-in bench seating with shoe cubbies and tall cupboards provides practical storage for bags, coats, and everyday essentials.
